According to sources, the Greek government is preparing to proceed to parliament recess and to composing the summer meeting sections. This will facilitate the plans of the cabinet, as it will avoid the elections in September and the possible request of a confidence vote after 20 August.
The summer meeting sections consist of 100 MPs from all parliamentary parties and the leader of each party indicates the composition from his party. Each section will meet for 15 days and the meetings will continue until early October.
Moreover, by setting up the summer sections that will involve MPs selected by Alexis Tsipras the government can pass some crucial and difficult bills under the memorandum, such as the taxation on farmers.
In addition, there is less likelihood of parliament speaker Zoe Konstantopoulou blocking the procedures and making it difficult to vote on the bills.
No vote of confidence can be requested and no elections can take place while the sessions of summer sections continue, which totally suits the government that prefers to hold the elections in October when all bills from the memorandum will be voted on and the payment of the entire bailout programme will be ensured.
According to sources, the government has already drawn up the relevant Presidential Decree, which seems to have been signed by President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
According to other sources, however, voices in the government insist on a vote of confidence and elections in September. The scenario preferred by the government of Alexis Tsipras should be clear by the end of the day.
