A Greek military Sikorsky helicopter inspected the cargo ship Blue Sky M, which is supposedly transporting about 700 illegal immigrants. According to some media, they are refugees from Syria.

Upon descending over the ship, the crew members of the helicopter had noticed no movement of people. In a subsequent telephone conversation with the captain, he said that there was no problem onboard the vessel.

The ship sailing under the Moldovan flag was three nautical miles southwest of Othonoi island near Corfu when one of the people on it called for help via the European phone number 112.

The ship is already in Italian territorial waters. The local services will inspect it to establish whether it is actually transporting illegal immigrants.
