The big event for Greek tennis, namely the participation of Grigor Dimitrov in the team of Bulgaria in the upcoming tournament against Greece for remaining in the Europe/Africa Zone Group II for the Davis Cup is one of the headlines in the Greek sports media. "A great tennis star will step on the courts of Helioupolis Club," writes the website pamesports.gr.
The media points out that Grigor Dimitrov will take part in a tournament in Athens for the second time. The first was back in 2008 when he was taking his first steps in professional tennis. Then he participated in the Challenger tournament with a prize fund of $125,000, organized by the Aegean Tennis Cup. "However, many things have changed since then. Both professionals and amateurs define Dimitrov as the future number one in world tennis," reads the publication.
Another news website, inews.gr, expects great interest in the tournament at the end of the week, "A lot of people will gather at Helioupolis this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the reason for this being the rising star of world tennis Grigor Dimitrov, who has responded to the request of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation to join the team of his country in the tournament against Greece," writes the media.
gazzetta.gr recalls that the last two matches between the teams of Bulgaria and Greece were won by the hosts and that the last victory for the team of Bulgaria was in 1990. Other sports editions such as sport24.gr and novasport.gr define as zero the Greeks’ chances of winning this tournament.
The Bulgarian team will arrive in Athens today and its biggest star Grigor Dimitrov, who has just climbed to number 15 in the world ranking, will arrive on Wednesday. The hosts from Helioupolis Club report that Grigor will attend the draw for the tournament, which will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday. They ensure that the clay courts are in excellent condition, confidently awaiting fair play.
