An F-16 aircraft of the Greek military aviation crashed in Spain during military training organised by NATO.

According to the Greek General Staff, while taking off, the two-seater aircraft fell on other aircraft that were on the runway of the military base in Los Llanos in the region of Albacete.

There is no information about the condition of the two pilots nor is it clear whether they were able to activate the automatic ejection system.

The Spanish Ministry of Defence reported that the incident injured four people. According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, however, there are two dead and ten injured, six of them being in serious condition.

The latest information from the Spanish Ministry of Defence indicates that the victims of the incident are ten. There are ten injured and the information that six of them are in serious condition has been confirmed.

According to the international news agency Associated Press the authorities are assuming that the victims are not Spanish citizens, which is raising the concerns that the two Greek pilots of the crashed plane may be among them.

So far there has been no information on the pilots from the Greek side. The Ministry of Defence in Athens has only announced that the crews of all other Greek aircraft involved in the training are in good condition.

The Greek aircraft participated in the first training series for the year under the "Tactical Leadership" programme that is being conducted in the Spanish base from 19 January to 13 February.
