On 13 February, the Greek Parliament will hold elections for a President. According to sources, the final schedule for the work of the National Assembly over the coming days has been already drawn up.
Meanwhile, former President of Parliament Evangelos Meimarakis met with Zoe Konstantopoulou who is proposed by SYRIZA for the new President of Parliament.
Meimarakis welcomed his probable future successor with a broad smile, tieless and with a large bouquet in hand.

So, according to sources, the schedule of the National Assembly in the coming days will be as follows:
5 February: according to a Presidential Decree, the parliament will start its work with the oath taking ceremony of its members.
6 February: electing a President of Parliament. There will be two sessions. The morning session will elect the President and the afternoon one the other members of the leadership.
6 February: two agendas will be issued as follows: a) for the policy statement of the government, and b) for the election of a President after a minimum of 5 days.
7, 8 and 9 February: reading the policy statement of the government of SYRIZA followed by debates, and at midnight on 9 February there will be a vote of confidence in the new government.
13 February: election of a new President of Greece.
It is noteworthy that a summit will take place on 12 February, in which Alexis Tsipras will participate for the first time as Greece’s Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, it has become clear that the favourites of the former government for the post of President of Greece are two members of New Democracy, namely European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos and former Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.

The government and the persons themselves are not denying the nominations, and the rumours in the press and on the Internet are intensifying. However, the candidate's name will be known soon, as having been formed, the new Parliament has to tackle the election of the head of state first.
Over time, academician Dimitris Nanopoulos, director Costas Gavras, Prof. Eleni Glikatzi-Arveler, former leader of SYRIZA Nikos Konstantopoulos, Archbishop of the Orthodox Church in Albania Anastasios Yiannoulatos and others have been possible candidates for the highest political post.
