The new bailout agreement and the PSI have been passed by the Greek Parliament with 199 votes "for" and are state laws now. The vote passed for both major parties, as 21 members of PASOK and 21 of New Democracy decided not to support the bill. Minutes after the announcement of the results, they were disaffiliated by the parliamentary groups of their political parties and were told that they would not be able to run in the next elections.
In a letter to Parliament president Filippos Petsalnikos, LAOS leader George Karatzaferis announced that he excludes from the parliamentary group of his party the deputies Adonis Georgiadis and Makis Voridis who were ministers in the cabinet of Lucas Papademos two days ago. Not only did they not follow their colleagues when they withdrew from Parliament a few hours ago, but they voted in favour of the bill.
Although there are no consequences so far, "disobedience" was reported in the ranks of the Democratic Alliance of Dora Bakogiannis. The independent candidate Lefteris Avgenakis did not follow the party line and voted "against".
The democratic Left, the Communist Party and the far-left from SYRIZA voted against the bill. According to sources, Prime Minister Lucas Papademos is expected to hold a major reshuffling of the Greek cabinet tomorrow. The same sources claim that he will form a small team of technocrats following the example of the cabinet of Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti.
