The Greek police has found and seized 20 kilograms of cocaine while arresting two Serbian nationals, suspected for participating in an international drug distribution network. The core of the organization is thought to be of Serbs and Peruvians.
The Serbian criminals have arrived in Athens, two days before their arrest, to receive a drug shipment and transfer it to Serbia. The investigation process has later revealed two other fellow-countrymen have been involved in the network – one of them living in Serbia and the other in Buenos Aires.
The narcotics in question have been taken to Athens by a request from the Peruvian investigators, and only after the permission of the prosecutor’s office at the Greek court. The Greek counterparty has also taken the responsibility to follow the shipment and ensure it does not end in the wrong hands. The arrest was made after one of the criminals has handed the cocaine to a special agent from the Peruvian forces, presented to him as a businessman in the yacht industry. After the transfer, the package was supposed to go on a Greek boat and continue its journey.
The covert operation was successfully executed in cooperation between the Greek police’s drug squad and their counterparts in the United States and Peru.
