More than six out of every ten internet users in Greece use social networks, which puts the country on third place among all European countries after Denmark and Norway.
Based on an online research done by InSites Consulting, 63% of Greeks who use internet have created a profile in a social network and only 45% of the average users in the EU have such profiles. 33% of Greek users update their profiles daily and in Europe this percentage is 15. 37% visit friend profiles daily and among Europeans this percentage is only 19. Those results are based on a research done by Internet & Mobile MC DC, which was done in cooperation with Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Europe and IAB, in 16 countries, including Greece.
According to the research Greeks are very active, social and frequent users. Based on the gathered data 66% of them surf the net every day (in Europe – 53%), and 24% spend more than 4 hours online (in Europe – 17%). 54% of Greeks check their emails every day and in Europe this percentage is only 37%. Besides this 19% of Greeks have a smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry, etc) and have Mobile Internet (in Europe this percentage is 15%).
When it comes to the social profile of the users, 35% use instant messaging every day (in Europe – 25%), 21% want videos on YouTube (in Europe – 12%), 24% upload videos at least once per week (in Europe – 12%) and 25% listen to online radio everyday (in Europe – 16%).
When it comes to search engines, 36% use them few times per day (in Europe – 22%), 67% uses them at least once per week to find products and services (in Europe – 59%) and 69% trust the results provided by online search engines. 60% of users claim that they will find the online surfing experience more pleasant if ads were more similar to their profiles and 65% say that they would like to communicate with companies, to which they are already clients.
70% of Greek users believe they receive useful offers for products and services from regularly visited websites and 50% believe that paid ads online are useful. 25% forward or share interesting for them paid ads to friends at least once per week.
72% of Greeks believe that online advertising is less annoying than other means of mass communication. According to Greek users the most attractive details in online advertising are video and sound. 59% of users are not annoyed by advertisements in social networks (in Europe – 32%) and 37% do not mind to provide personal information for more targeted advertising (in Europe – 26%).
