Greeks bought 6,000 iPhones in a single day

The Greeks once again ignored the recession and memoranda and rushed to pre-order and buy the new iPhone models, without worrying too much that this might well reach deep into their pockets.

Just yesterday, the day of the launch on the Greek market, more than 6,000 of the new and more expensive models, iPhone 6s iPhone 6s Plus, were lapped up by pre-orders and purchases.

And this number does not include demonstration models at mobile operators' retail outlets or electronics stores. The fact that the iPhones provided to retailers for the first day of sales in the Greek market were exhausted is quite telling.

It should be noted that 8,000 units were made available to Greece this time, and this number is going to grow. But even the fact that Apple has enlisted the country in the second wave of new iPhone sales implies that Greece is considered a dynamic market despite the crunch.

The new iPhone craze is not a Greek phenomenon. Apple already announced a few days ago they had sold 13 million within three days.

Many buyers in Greece had been ordering the sets in advance since the beginning of last week or put themselves on lists despite the exorbitant pricetags.

Prices actually start from €789 (without a new contract) for the 6s model, with a 4.7-inch screen and 16 GB of memory. IPhone 6s with 64 GB of memory will set you back € 899, and the one with 128 GB memory – €999. The price of iPhone 6s Plus with a 5.5 inch screen starts from €899 (16 GB) goes to €999 (64 GB) and all the way up to €1099 (128 GB).

The new iPhone's processor is 70% faster. The main camera has a resolution of 12 megapixels and offers the possibility of 4K video. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels.

The innovation in the new models is 3D Touch, which makes the screen react to the force of pressing.

The new models are available in 4 colours: gold, graphite, silver and rose gold. It's worth pointing out that during the first half of the year over 60% of mobile phones sold in Greece were smartphones and their number exceeds 1 million. This is an increase of 40% compared to the same period last year.
