Great expectations are surrounding tonight’s lots drawing of the Greek National Lottery Joker. The jackpot has piled-up to €12m after no one won the previous drawing, which had a prize of €9m. The winning combination 5+1 will be drawn on the New Year Eve (Thursday December 31st) and could make happy one lucky man at the end of the difficult year 2009. Many Greeks hope to be the lucky ones and secure their future after economic analyzers’ predictions of deepening of the financial crisis.
Particularly crowded are the lottery posts Propo where an amount of more than €1m has accumulated for number of games. In December 2008 the jackpot reached €10m and huge crowds would stuff the Propo posts. An owner of a lottery bureau commented: “I really can’t understand people’s logic. Whole year round nobody plays and all of a sudden everyone rushes to fill in the pools when there’s a jackpot of a couple of millions- as if 500-600 thousand euro wouldn’t be enough!”
The jackpot of the Greek Joker was won three times this year. 2009 was lucky for the winner of €7m in March. Another sum of close to three million was won in May and two players split €8m in September.
Those left behind by fortune can try their luck for the big lottery at the New Year Eve drawings of the National Lottery. This lottery takes place every year and on December 31 the name of the next winner will be announced. The prize is €15m. Good luck to everyone!
