Most polls published in the Sunday papers showed a significant shrinking of the difference between SYRIZA and New Democracy.

SYRIZA still leads in voters’ preferences, but only one study showed more than a 4% difference in favour of the radical left-wing party.

The polls have given the following percentages to the two strongest parties:

  • To Vima: SYRIZA – 25.5%, New Democracy – 22.7%
  • Proto Thema: SYRIZA - 27.6%,  New Democracy -24%
  • Parapolitika: SYRIZA - 24.2%, New Democracy - 21.1%
  • To Paron: SYRIZA - 28.5%, New Democracy - 21.5%

The respondents of three polls have answered the question "Who do you think is more appropriate for prime minister?" by giving their preference to New Democracy’s leader Antonis Samaras. The two top political leaders in Greece obtained the following percentages:

  • To Vima: Antonis Samaras: 45.1% , Alexis Tsipras: 33.5%
  • Proto Thema: Antonis Samaras: 37%, Alexis Tsipras: 25%
  • Parapolitika: Antonis Samaras: 34%, Alexis Tsipras: 20%
  • To Paron: Alexis Tsipras: 38%,  Antonis Samaras: 34%

If the elections were held today, except for the two largest parties, the following would certainly make it into parliament:

  • To Potami (4.1% - 6.8%)
  • PASOK (4.3% - 6,7%)
  • Golden Dawn (4.1% - 5.9%)
  • Communist Party (4.1% - 5.8%)

The Independent Greeks, gathering 2.5% - 2.9%, come near the threshold.

This is how the To Vima poll respondents answered the question as to whether failing to elect a president and having early elections would be a positive or a negative event: 59.9% defined it as negative, 36% - as positive.

And this is where respondents stood on the dilemma, ‘electing a president or early elections’:

  • Proto Thema: electing a president: 54%, early parliamentary elections: 37%
  • Parapolitika: electing a president: 54%, early parliamentary elections: 40%

In To Paron’s poll 39% of respondents preferred the election of a president, 38% - early parliamentary elections, and 16% thought a president ought to be elected and that parliamentary elections should be held right after.

59% of citizens believe there is still a risk of Greece leaving the Eurozone, while 32.6% say this has safely been avoided.
