Greek political parties have reacted strongly to the attack on members of the Communist Party while they were attaching posters on Thursday night.

The Communist Party itself accused Golden Dawn stating that its members had carried out the attack and in turn attacked nationalists accusing them of an attempted murder, since 9 injured people were hospitalised, including chairman of the union of metal workers in Piraeus Sotiris Pulikoyanis and other members of the management. As claimed by the party, the way in which they acted and the instruments of the attack - cars and bikes that came out of the surrounding streets, as well as iron rods and sticks with sharp points, proved the attempted murder. "Yesterday's deadly attack proves the Nazi character of Golden Dawn, the constant target of which has been the Communist Party because it fights for the change of the capitalist system that gave birth to and nurtures fascism and Nazism. The attack against members of the Communist Party, including trade unionists, whose activities are a thorn in employers’ eyes, confirmed their role as apprentices of the system," emphasised the statement.

During his visit to Thessaloniki during the International Fair, General Secretary of the party Dimitris Koutsoubas, took a position on the issue. According to him, the media are to blame, since even the negative representation of the Nazi fascist Golden Dawn party sometimes affects in various ways desperate people who stay at home watching TV and do not know where to go.

SYRIZA: a Nazigang

SYRIZA also focused its attacks on Golden Dawn. According to the party, after years of acting with impunity and attacking immigrants, the Nazi party now does not hesitate to turn against members of left-wing parties. SYRIZA accused the police of not arresting anyone, and this fact, coupled with the constant political support they are receiving from the government, has encouraged the Nazis."

The Independent Greeks party: We condemn the attack of neo-Nazis

"We condemn the attack by neo-Nazis against members of the Communist Party in Perama," reads a statement from the party, adding that some people aim at shedding blood.

PASOK: an unprovoked deadly attack of neo-Nazis

"We are all fighting together on modern Thermopylae against those who are dangerous to democracy." The party stressed that all constitutional parties should unite in order to oppose this unconditionally. The call of PASOK for general institutional and political actions against the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party has remained unanswered yet, socialists claimed. The issue about the actions of the police was also brought forward, noting that questions are arising, too, for example, as to how long the police will be watching without interfering and how long some parliamentary parties will act shortsightedly because of their minor party benefits? Those who believe that Golden Dawn is dangerous only to "others" are wrong, PASOK emphasised.

Democratic Left: a barbaricattack of Golden Dawn members

Democratic Left also condemned the attack. The statement of the party talked about fascist violence, tolerance in terms of such acts and a political issue.

Golden Dawn: a slander

Golden Dawn spoke of a slander against it. The party said that the only reason for the slander was that a nationalist organisation of Greek workers has been created in the area of the shipyards. Thus, interests of ship-owners and trade unions were affected and because of that fact they were trying to stop Golden Dawn by slandering, the statement added.

The Greek policerejected accusations

In turn, the police denied allegations of inaction. According to the police, the first call about the attack was made at 00:08:17 and the first police car reached the site in 2.5 minutes, at 00:10:57, while the second – at 00: 12:07 and the third at 00:12:09. Afterwards, at 00:12:19 the Special Forces arrived, after which a total of 9 police cars and two units of the Special Forces arrived at the site - in total, more than 38 policemen.

The police also claimed that at the time of arrival at the site, perpetrators had fled, and immediate actions were carried out in order to carry out a search for them in the area. They are still being searched for at the moment.

Yesterday afternoon, Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris accused the police of illegal intrusion into homes of members of the Golden Dawn party.

Workers at theport: a barbaricfascistattack

Trade unions of employees at the port also condemned the attack and called on workers and residents of Piraeus to condemn the violent act and step up the fight for the abolition of anti-popular and anti-workers policies.
