GRReporter was awarded a bronze medal for the Best Thematic Site at the Greek Digital Media Awards as one of the best digital media in Greece.

The Digital Media Awards 2014 contest aims to award and present the best and most innovative practices in the field of digital media. The award ceremony took place on Thursday at Gazarte space for cultural and artistic events.

GRReporter won the interest and recognition of the jury with the original idea of a site for news and analysis from Greece in Bulgarian and English and from Bulgaria in the Greek language, focusing on topics of Bulgarian and Greek interest in all areas, including politics, economics, social issues, culture, and sports.

"The candidates for the contest awards competed in compliance with several key criteria, namely an original idea, its realization, best application and functionality," said chair of the jury Betty Tsakarestou, associate professor in the Department of Communication, Media and Culture at Pandeio University in Athens. "Promoting innovation and giving impetus through the awards are a great opportunity for the sector and for the improvement of competitiveness. The presentation of the best examples leads to further development and they are an incentive for all of us," she added.

The 11 members of the jury voted electronically, in pre-formed groups. The evaluation took place through a web-based platform developed especially for the contest. The final score of each candidate was formed as an arithmetical mean of the total score.

Although it was not devoid of formality, the ceremony was full of excitement and joyful atmosphere. Its hosts were two of the most popular stand-up comedians in Greece, Lila Stambouloglou and Silas Seraphim.

With a lot of humour, they presented the 55 winners in the various categories, including many leading companies in the field of media and advertising. The award winners are the following: Antenna TV for its news sites antenna.gr/news and vice.gr, the newly created site thetoc.gr of journalist Eli Staikou, the site of Mega TV, www.megatv.com/megamou, novasports.gr, sport24.gr, Star Channel, several Internet radio stations, the online edition of protothema.gr newspaper, regional media, information and opinion blogs, and many companies operating in the field of digital media and advertising.

The Digital Media Award 2014 is the third award for GRReporter. In 2012 the site won the award in the Regional Media category of the prestigious Bulgarian Web Awards and in 2013 in the Bulgarian Media Abroad category. The new award is the first one we have received outside Bulgaria and this makes it even more valuable and inspiring.

GRReporter will continue to provide timely and quality information to its readers who are constantly growing in number.
