The U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has cancelled her visit to Athens for the second time. Mrs. Clinton had to arrive in Athens in early February after the annual security conference in Munich. As Mega TV’s correspondent in Washington Michalis Ignatiou announced, the U.S. top diplomat had cancelled her visits to Athens and Ankara because of the crisis in Egypt. Hillary Clinton had to participate in the summit of the OSCE in Corfu in June 2009 but she could not come for health reasons.

Today the Greek Air Force is starting the Sunbeam Operation. Three military cargo aircraft S130 took off from the military airport in Elefsina at 9 am to the final destination the Egyptian city of Alexandria. They should bring back in Athens the Greek citizens who wished to temporarily leave Egypt until the situation there settles. According to various media sources, the number of the people varies between 170 and 250 and most of them are women and children.

Egyptian citizens who live in Athens will hold a large protest against the regime of Hosni Mubarak. It will be held in front of the building of the Egyptian Embassy in Athens opposite the Greek Parliament on the main Vassilis Sofiyas Avenue at six o’clock in the evening. Similar protests and demonstrations are scheduled for tonight in other European capitals and multimillion peaceful march organized by the opposition will be held in Cairo at the same time.
