The Greek frigate "Salamis" was about to face an incident last week while sailing in Israeli waters. The Greek media report that the ship was about to be hit by a missile. The Ministry of Defence admits that on 9 April, the crew of the frigate was urgently taken to hospital in Haifa, but it had nothing to do with the missile.
On Sunday, the frigate returned to the military port on Salamis Island after taking part in the international exercises Noble Dina 14 conducted in the eastern Mediterranean south of Crete from 26 March to 10 April. They involved the navy and air forces of Greece, the U.S. and Israel, and the purpose of the exercises was to improve the operational cooperation between the three countries in the search and rescue of civilians during disasters, evacuation of entire regions, as well as during actions taken in cases of fires on ships.
Minister of Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos has requested the General Staff of the Greek Army to thoroughly inspect the information on the incident with frigate "Salamis" disseminated in the media.
