Unknown people fired at DIAS police officers on the morning of Holy Saturday in Mihalakoupoulou Street in Athens. According to information, around 4 a.m., four bikers from the DIAS motorcycle-riding squad started following a car which did not stop for a check. There were at least two passengers in the vehicle.
In front of the church of Agios Haralambos, the passengers got out of the car and shot at the police, but did not injure anyone. The police requested backup, but the unknown managed to escape.
According to information, the perpetrators are criminals.
Security services in Attica are investigating in order to discover and arrest the two shooters.
According to information, the car belongs to a foreigner and was not reported stolen.
Meanwhile, four people were seriously injured in an explosion of fireworks in Oia, Santorini, at midnight on Easter, namely three American citizens, two women and a man, and a 50-year-old Greek who were initially taken to the health centre on the island, and then a private jet took them to Venizelos hospital in Iraklio, Crete.
The American was seriously wounded in the eye and one of the women was wounded in the leg, while the other - in the waist. The Greek was wounded in the face. In total, the blast wounded seven people, but the other three did not require further treatment after they were provided first aid.
The fireworks were shot by an unknown person in the churchyard of Akathist the Virgin Mary exactly on the coming of Easter. The police have started an investigation for the discovery of the perpetrator.
Meanwhile on Crete, the custom of shooting in the air caused damage to a school. According to flashnews.gr, believers in Phaestos fired in the air in order to celebrate Easter, but the bullets reached the windows of Sivas elementary school in Phaestos.
No one was injured in the shooting. Citizens there have informed the police and they are now investigating the case.
