Kostadinka Kuneva, who tragically became known after being splashed with acid in December 2008 in Athens, will run for a Member of the European Parliament from the party of notable Greek journalist Stavros Theodorakis as announced by radio journalist Stefanos Tsitsopoulos from Thessaloniki, who is Theodorakis’ very close friend.

The nomination of Kuneva and the other nominations of the new party are to be announced at a press conference next Tuesday.

The establishment of the new political formation and the name of the movement "To potami" ("The River" – author’s note) was announced on the website protagon.gr a few hours ago by Stavros Theodorakis in a manifesto entitled "We begin".

"I do not know how to begin. Although I had been preparing for this moment for a long time, I feel uncomfortable. So, let me start from the end. Is the existence of politics without a party past possible? Shall I, and then you, step forward, and shall many of us step forward in order to become a river that will change Greece?

However, let us take things one after another. The idea is not just mine. Every morning, every evening, the second sentence I hear from the people I meet is, "What are we going to do?" Many times the reason for this has been something I have written or shown on television, and other times it has been newspaper headlines, government decisions and political disputes. All are in deadlock. Even those who have decided for whom they will vote start asking after having a few words with me, "Do we have any other option?"

This is the beginning of the manifesto of the party establishment, which has provoked strong reactions in social media. According to Tsitsopoulos, "To Potami" will be a "pro-European left-oriented progressive party."
 
It is worth noting that Stavros Theodorakis was the first journalist who spoke with Kostadinka Kuneva after the attack on her when she was under treatment in the central "Evangelismos" hospital in Athens.
