The General Staff of the Greek air force has announced that the two pilots who flew the crashed F-16 aircraft during yesterday's accident in the Spanish military base Los Llanos in the region of Albacete have not survived.

The names of those killed are Panagiotis Lascaris, aged 35 and Athanasios Zangas, aged 31. The former had a total of 1,459 flying hours, 872 of them being on the F-16 military aircraft and the latter had a total of 1,128 flying hours, including 524 on the specific fighter plane.

As GRReporter announced last night, the victims of the accident are 10 at least whereas the number of injured is 13.

The aircraft that crashed yesterday was delivered to the Greek air force in November 1997 and had about 4,056 flying hours.

The accident happened at 4:16 pm on Monday while the fighter plane was taking off during the first 2015 training within the NATO programme for tactical leadership.

The General Staff of the Greek air force has announced that a team of Greek experts has already been sent to the Spanish military base to investigate the causes of the accident. Due to the presence of toxic substances, the Spanish authorities have banned access to the scene. A specialised unit of the Greek air force has been sent to Spain by a C-130 aircraft to help ensure access for the land forces to the runway of the base, where the Greek fighter plane crashed.
