Thieves broke into the house of the deputy of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) Liana Kanelli, which is located in the northern suburbs of the capital. The theft took place in the early hours on Sunday while Kanelli and her family were sleeping. The criminals stole a computer, a cell phone, 800 euro, gold jewellery and her car. They had broken into the house through the balcony door without being heard by the occupants of the house. According to the deputy, the burglary took place after a long time of watching and the items taken had been deliberately chosen.

"My personal phone and my personal computer have been stolen. Although there were several much more easily accessible computers before the eyes of the thieves, they took only my computer. They went up the stairs to the bedroom, but did not take any of the objects they saw," Kanelli said to Mega TV. She insists that the thieves had preferred to take the keys to her own car, although there were keys to other cars as well. "They took the objects quite purposefully in order to send a clear message to me – that they are a breath away," said Liana Kanelli.

According to the deputy, she was the victim of intimidation to shut her mouth, as she put it. She does not specify on what grounds someone might want to intimidate her. "Once they were five centimetres away from my bedroom and did not take the 30 euro, which they had found in my wallet, I can make whatever findings I decide for any political circle," insists Kanelli.

In June last year, the spokesman of the radical nationalist Golden Dawn party, Ilias Kasidiaris, literally beat the KKE deputy. The reason was that Kanelli had hit his hand with a newspaper after Kasidiaris had thrown water in the face of his interlocutor Rena Dourou from SYRIZA. Since then, Kanelli has had fears that the members of Golden Dawn aim to remove her and other representatives of the Greek left.

The same suspicions of conspiracy are confirmed by the Greek Communist Party, which has determined the burglary as a warning against the KKE. According to the official communication, the party is carrying out its own investigation and it urges the authorities to immediately identify the perpetrators.
