Libyan Airlines jet flew through Greek air space south of Crete and headed to Cairo. The identity of the passengers of the luxury Falcon 900 was not revealed and doubts emerged that Muammar Qaddafi or his family members may have been on board.
According to the Greek news agency ANA which refers to journalistic sources, the crew of the airplane did not state that officials were present on board.
Other Greek media reported that it is very possible Muammar Qaddafi to have been on board while according to Reuters Greek authorities could not confirm this information.
The statement made by the agency later says that the plane landed in Cairo. "The head of Libya's supplies office General Abdel Rahman Ben Ali was traveling by the plane" told Reuters Cairo airport employee.
Later, the agency reported that the General has arrived by the presidential plane in Cairo to convey the message of the leader of Libya to the military council that took the power in Egypt after the fall of Hosni Mubarak. Diplomats in Cairo said that the message of Muammar Qaddafi to Egyptian generals was private.
According to ANA, the airplane has committed almost circular motion. He took off from Tripoli and entered Greek air space at 11:20 near Agnus. This is the end point of the Greek controlled air space in the Mediterranean and there begins the air space of Malta. The plane flew through the Greek air space for 14 minutes and at 11:34 came out of it near Saloun where the air space of Egypt starts.
The pilot of the aircraft complied with his obligation to announce the flight plan to the Greek Civil Aviation, stating that the plane took off from Tripoli to Cairo, without mentioning the names of the passengers. It should be noted that when the pilot announces the flight plan he is not required to provide information about the passengers’ identity.
Meanwhile, Qatar Al Jazeera TV network reported that three Qaddafi's aircraft took off from the military airport which is located near Tripoli. According to a journalist from Malta who refers to the Arab media, one of the planes headed to Vienna, the other to Athens and the third to Cairo. "Obviously nobody knows who may be in the planes" said he.
The Greek Civil Aviation designated the flight from Tripoli as usuall. The same plane has landed in the capital of Jordan Amman a few days ago and then flew back to Libya.
