The policeman Epaminondas Korkoneas who caused the tragic death of the 15 years old student Alexis Grigoropoulos on December 6, 2008 in the Athens neighborhood Exarchia most likely will be life imprisoned. Тhe prosecutor Haralambos Lakafosas submitted to the court in the city of Amfisa where the case of the death boy is held a claim for charging Korkoneas with murder. His colleague Vassilis Saraliotis will be sentenced to 20 years in prison if the court accepts the prosecutor's assertion that he deliberately incited his colleague to commit the crime.

The prosecutor stated to the court in Amfisa that on the evening of December 6, 2008 Korkoneas was in a peaceful state of mind but pulled out a gun, pointed it to Dzavelas street, where there was a small group of young men including Grigoropulos, and shot twice. Vassilis Saraliotis, who encouraged Korkoneas and was with him all the time, was adherent to the crime. According to the prosecutor, Saraliotis quite deliberately encouraged the action of his colleague and even had the desire to contribute to it.

Lakafosas insists that both defendants had acted under the influence of anger and rage and knew that their conduct will have bad consequences. Lakafosas still insists that the defendants were extremely offensive to the group of young people, among which was the fifteen years old Alexis Grigoropoulos. He is accusing them of lack of composure and professionalism and clearly willing to confront. According to the prosecutor, both policemen understood that there were wounded people from the shots, but left indifferently ...

Lakafosas urged the court to dismiss the claims of two police officers to accept the extenuating circumstances. Korkoneas’ excuse that his life was in danger and he paniced Lakafosas characterized as false because the young people did not threaten in any way the lives of the policemen, apart from the verbal attacks. When a person is in danger he has no cold attitude to his opponent and he does not shoot and does not put his gun back and does not leave indifferently, said the prosecutor.

Lakafosis urges the court not to accept the arguments for the honest life of the accused before and after the crime either. He urges the sincere remorse and good behavior of Korkoneas after the committed murder not be accepted. The two policemen were detained temporarily on June 7, which is a too short time to confirm something similar. The deep remorse of the defendants is under suspicion and he accuses them of trying to mislead the court by misrepresenting the facts. Their apology is characterized as “false”.

The case is expected to continue on September 2.
