A 28-year-old amateur soccer player was killed by lightning during training on the island of Euboea. The tragedy took place on Thursday evening when Yiannis Sikiotis, the owner of a farm, was on the field with his teammates. When the thunderstorm started, the other players managed to save themselves by immediately escaping to the changing rooms. Yiannis Sikiotis lagged behind and the lightning caught him in midfield. Four teammates of the unfortunate man are at the local hospital in a state of shock.

At night, the storm moved over Athens. Heavy rainfall cut off the electricity in the neighbourhoods of Melissa and Pendeli, and at about 2:00 am the fire department received calls for flooded premises in the neighbourhoods of Agia Paraskevi, Pallini and Spata. Holargos residents claim that there was a hailstorm in their neighbourhood.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused problems in other parts of Greece as well. The traffic police reported flooded roads in Fthiotida. The promenade of the central city of Argostoli on the island of Kefalonia is flooded, the circulation of vehicles is cut off and many shops and restaurants are flooded too. The storm was accompanied by heavy hail.
Bad weather has caused significant damage on the island of Samos, where the promenade is also flooded, as well as the local branch of Piraeus Bank and the public library. However, the public school in the village of Ano Vathi has suffered the most, as floodwaters have pulled down the brick fence that has fallen on the cars parked on the road. Fortunately, there are no injuries.
