The Greek police captured two foreigners from Afghanistan at the age of 27 and 20 years in connection with the murder of the 44-year-old Manolis Kantaris last week in downtown Athens. The suspects were captured during an inspection in an abandoned building on Menandrou Street where they lived together with other foreigners. Police are still looking for their third accomplice, who is of Pakistani origin. The two Afghans were found with the help of the videos filmed by the cameras of the two shops near the scene as well as with their fingerprints. Furthermore, the 27-year-old is known to the authorities because he was arrested for involvement in drug trafficking and sentenced to prison for three years. The Afghan was released a month ago.

As stated in a message of the Athens police, the two Afghans admitted that they are the perpetrators of the crime and described the events in detail. The reason for the murder was to rob the victim. The perpetrators told the police that they had sold the camera stolen from Manolis Kantaris for 120 euros in the tourist region Monastiraki hours after the murder, when Athens was shaking from the clashes between the extreme right and left demonstrators and the police.

Today, the two Afghans testified before the prosecutor. They were charged with murder, complicity in murder, complicity in armed robbery in consequence of which a person was killed, for illegally carrying, use and possession of firearms.

During the police action were arrested 36 and captured 590 people. It involved 146 police officers who checked 900 persons. 27 of those arrested were indicted for violating the Foreigners Act, three - for violations of the law for the games, two - for theft, two - for drug possession and two - for violating the Customs Code.

And while the authorities in Athens were trying to apply the law, traffickers of people from Turkey opened fire on a mixed squad of the Frontex patrol near the Maritsa River in Evros.

According to the first reports from Thursday evening, the police noticed using thermal cameras and received the same information from the helicopter team that about 100 illegal immigrants are preparing to come from Turkey to Greece by boats. Then, they decided to take up an ambush and not to allow them to pass.

In the early morning hours of today the traffickers and immigrants boarded the boats and tried to cross the river. When the traffickers felt the presence of border police they began firing into the air. The police did not respond to the fire and the traffickers realized that they would not be able to cross with the immigrants. Then, they returned to the opposite side of the river where they were captured by the Turkish police.

Meanwhile, it became clear that the youth captured during the armed attack on a police patrol in the Athens suburb of Pevki is associated with members of the terrorist organisation Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei.

The capture of the 21-year-old Theophilos Mavropoulos brought brand new information to the police, as the organisation has not used firearms during their attacks never before. Although the wounded young man had no identification papers, he was identified after the police compared his fingerprints with those found in the hiding place of the organisation in Volos.

The police do not exclude the possibility that the student is not a member of that organisation and investigate the possibility that he has recently been involved in the Sect of Revolutionaries. Another possibility under consideration is whether the youth is one of connections between the Greek terrorist organisations.
