The Greek Antenna TV, owned by entrepreneur Minos Kyriakou, carried out mass layoffs of staff, said for GRReporter journalists working in the media. Today, 30 operators and technical personnel, as well as another 10 people from the channel's administration, were handed contract terminations. Antenna TV was the owner of the Bulgarian Nova TV for 10 years, from 1999 to 2009, when Minos Kyriakou sold his Bulgarian media for the fantastic amount of €620 million. The deal is still considered among the most successful ones in the Greek media market.
About 10 days ago, the channel sacked 10 journalists, among them programme director Yannis Latsios, better known for being the former husband of the Greek television legend, Eleni Menegaki. A few months ago, another Greek television, Alpha, also embarked on massive layoffs of technical personnel, and the salaries of those retaining their jobs were cut by 50%.

Industry experts commented before GRReporter, that this is only the beginning of the crisis on the Greek media market. The extremely controversial bill on electronic media initiated by SYRIZA will lead to even greater contraction of the media market while the tax on advertising will cause further turbulence.
