Ministers Reply by Twitter

Many Greek politicians have Twitter accounts and they often reply to tough questions and criticisms made by users. The restriction of characters in one post is only 140, but it still can exert strong political pressure. Sometimes, the acts of users are coordinated and one incites another to forward the message and spread it among the community to gain greater publicity. And then high-ranked politicians, ministers and parliamentarians “bend”, bombed by short, but “poisonous” user comments.

The secret of Twitter is that every message a user sends is virtual and available to all members in real time, immediately. And in their desire to attract young people as voters, politicians declare their activity, speeches and ideas in the social networks that are popular among the youngest people. But often politicians find themselves in difficulty when they are asked to give explanations.

The most active and sustained users of Twitter are the Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrisochoidis and the Minister of Education Anna Diamantopoulou. They regularly resume their statements and reply to questions and comments.

Indicative is the case with Kuneva - Bulgarian union member who was attacked with vitriol. Аccording to publications some time ago the case would have been hurled in the archive without having found the perpetrators. Therefore, Τwitter users have fiercely criticized the  Minister of Citizen Protection. As a result he published on his personal website a notice that the case will remain open and the investigation will continue.

Minister Chrisochoidis thanked everyone who expressed their condolences for the loss of his assistant George Vassilakis. He was killed by a bomb which exploded in the office of the Ministry. An older twitt acknowledged us with the Greek police disciplining and the mode of action of the Bureau to struggle cases of breaches.

Education Minister Anna Diamantopoulou also meets sharp criticism by Twitter. The open letter of the protesting teachers from Aharnes was forwarded to 1352 people who follow the profile of Mrs. Diamantopoulou, but also to her virtual friends. The questions of the Greek teachers in informatics were forwarded too. “You should fix the matter of the recognition of qualifications obtained from foreign universities; it is such a chaos there” says one of the users. In reply, Mrs. Diamantopoulou stressed that “if you have a particular solution you can share it with me... Your observations are quite correct. We are working on this and state funding has been increased this year.” The Minister apologized for sending recipients’ data in an e-mail, says Maria Psara – journalist of the Ethnos newspaper.
