Social media are appealing for a fresh rally in support of Greece’s staying in the EU. It is scheduled for 19:30, Monday, 22 June, at Syntagma Square in Athens, to coincide with the Brussels summit on Greece.
The first event under the slogan We Stay In Europe was held on Thursday at the same place, and was attended by thousands of citizens.
The message:
"Citizens of Athens,
Another European summit, which will be crucial for our country, will be held on Monday. Time is running out and the Greek ship is uncontrollably edging towards the rocks. Our worst fears seem to be turning into reality.
The big rally of the Athenians last Thursday showed us the way. There is no room for complacency. Let us take to the streets and squares, and thunderously voice our message: We Stay In Europe.
It should be heeded by those who are forging ahead with their plans for Grexit, drachma and the transformation of our country into an enclave of a Stalinist type "democracy".
We, the citizens who want Greece to remain in Europe and the euro, who want it to remain a member of the great democratic community, we should be again in Syntagma on Monday, 22 June, at 19:30, and hold up only Greek and European flags, and our whistles as well.
This is an exclusively citizens’ initiative rather than a partisan one. Everybody without exception is welcome to give their help. "
Again on Monday, the citizens will flock around the White Tower in Thessaloniki to express their support for Greece’s staying in united Europe. Organised through social media, the rally will start at 19:30. Until now, the event has been supported by 32,000 people, with at least 3,200 of them willing to participate. "We were born in Europe and want to stay in it," the organisers argued.
''We Stay In Europe'' will be the slogan here as well; it will voice the majority’s desire to see the negotiations completed.
