Hours after the heavy chain-reaction crash near Veria on the Egnatia highway, a new road accident followed. Shortly after midnight, on the 28th kilometre of the road near Paramitia, a TIR truck with Bulgarian registration travelling to Igoumenitsa buckled and ran into the crash barrier.
According to Greek news agency Amna the accident was caused by the slippery road surface. The truck was carrying cars that fell off onto the road during the collision. One of the cars even ended up in the opposite lane.
Due to the late hour there was no traffic movement on the highway and thus serious accidents were avoided. The driver of the TIR truck, who is a Bulgarian citizen, is unharmed. The traffic on the highway was disrupted for about an hour until both lanes were cleared from the fallen cars.
