New general strike on Thursday July 8th, when it is the day of voting on the bill for the pension security reform, decided to declare the management of the union GSEE and very soon it is expected for the union employees in the public sector - ADEDY to also take such a decision. On the day of the strike the two unions are organizing a protest at the Klavtmonos Square and demonstrations towards the Parliament where the bill will be discussed.

The Confederation of Private and civil servants rejects the bill as a whole and wants for it to be withdrawn, while at the same time it strongly reacts also against changes in labor relations. Unions want rapid progress in negotiations with employers so that the collective labor contract to be signed, which aims to preserve the 13th and 14th salary, but also to manage to gain even a small increase in payments especially for pensioners with low pensions. The revolt of the confederations will not end with this, having in mind that they are planning riots at the Thessaloniki International Fair in 2010 from now.

In general, the logic and philosophy of law is preserved after the meetings which were held this week and despite the ardent protests of the trade unions and many lawmakers. There will be no changes to limit for retirement for mothers of minor children and the age of 65 years as retirement is preserved. The fixed service of 40 years of retirement at the age of 60 is also retained, and the changes for those who have begun to pay their contributions prior to 1992 are associated with the opportunity to redeem the specified period of time during which the insured has been studying in University, he was unemployed, he was sick or pregnant, so as to be considered as length of service and be able to fill the years to retirement.

The most important changes are:

For the people insured in IKA - the period changes during which the required days for retirement will increase from 10 500 to 12 000 and the retirement age from 58 years to 60 years. So in 2011 it will be necessary all retirees have 10 800 days or to be 58 years of age.

For those insured in professional pension funds and in the journalists’ fund (from 1983 to 1992) - in 2011 will be required 36 years of service and age limit remains 58 years. Until  the year 2015, during which the employee was insured shall be increased to 40 and the retirement age increases by two years.

For those insured in ETAA doctors and lawyers changes will also be delayed more lightly introduced, as well as for those free contractors insured in OAEE. Along with the changes made by the Minister of Employment Andreas Loverdos the current retirement age for workers in unhealthy and heavy jobs is also maintained, but the minimum limit of working days required for retirement will be increased. However the insured employees who are near to retirement, can buy in good conditions the service needed to retire.
