The former minister of health in the last government of PASOK, Andreas Loverdos, has announced today the establishment of a new political movement named RIKKSY. The deputy made the announcement on his personal website: "We have founded the Radical Movement for Social Democratic Alliance. We invite all those who agree with our positions and aims to sign the founding declaration, which is available on www.rikksy.gr ".

It states that the purpose of the movement is to create a national plan to emerge from the crisis, a strong welfare state and fair rules for the market functions. "We are ready to trigger immediately political, economic and institutional changes."

"Greece is a rich country as long as human and material resources are not wasted for the petty interests of a few cunning persons. With the implementation of our national programme, the real economy along with the small and large companies will be released of the public sector. It will ease it of the bureaucracy and the slow administering of justice. Permissions will be eliminated, judicial revisions of economic activities will be carried out quickly and rationally with the help of a smaller but more efficient scheme. At the same time, market regulation will be the seal of our social-democratic identity. For us, it is outrageous that wages are falling, prices are rising, unemployment is growing and banks refuse to help young entrepreneurs and bearers of smart and feasible business ideas without accounting to anybody," reads the manifesto of the new movement.

Andreas Loverdos defines it as a social-democratic formation that aims to become a party. The name RIKKSY stands for Radical Movement for Social Democratic Alliance. At the same time, it is pronounced in Greek the same way as the word "split".

Immediately after the appearance of the publication on his personal page, Andreas Loverdos said in an interview with SKAI Radio 100.3, that there were no conflicts inside PASOK. Several hours later, it became clear with whom the split was.

The leader of PASOK Evangelos Venizelos disaffiliated the deputy from the parliamentary group of the party with a written notice. In it, he accused his former ally in the fight for the chair of the "green" party of boycotting the preparation of the forthcoming congress of PASOK and its initiative against the racist violence and xenophobia of Golden Dawn.

"Mr. Loverdos has not created a current or a trend inside PASOK, but a movement that aims to become a party. In order to assure the stability of the government and to end positively the difficult negotiations with our partners and lenders, for months I was tolerant of actions, which were bad as well as persistent and harmful in an organized manner to our party.

I hoped that after the decision of the Eurogroup and his appearance in party bodies Mr. Loverdos would close the circle of his uncertainty and get involved in the general activities of the party. Unfortunately, it only lasted a few days.

Now, when PASOK is organizing with great efforts and difficulties a new "we", someone has chosen his "own self". It is a pity.

PASOK continues with those who are willing and able to do it. The party is open to dialogue and joint actions with all those who believe in the values of European Socialists and Democrats," reads the statement of Evangelos Venizelos, who announces at the end that Andreas Loverdos is no longer a member of the parliamentary group of PASOK.

So, this has put the end to a union that began 10 months ago with ardent promises of unity, "because our party will not endure more divisions and the country needs stability," as the former health minister had said then.

Following this further disaffiliation, the PASOK parliamentary group is reduced to 25 members. It is not yet clear when the new movement will be officially presented.
