The family of the murdered in July 2008 famous Greek actor Nikos Sergianopoulos, protested against the court sessions, which according to the relatives punish Nikos himself and not his killer. The lawsuit, which has been going on for two weeks now, revealed many intimate details from the actor’s life, which show he used to have a dual life – glamorous in front of the cameras and misty with cocaine breath in reality.
His colleagues from the sitcom “Disappearance” Fay Kokinopoulou and Stavros Zalmas claim that his character was self-destructive and he couldn’t have hurt anyone. He was not paranoid, he was working till the last second and he wasn’t bothering anyone. “I wish they hadn’t arrested the murderer,” is the opinion of the actor’s relatives and their lawyers. The defendant, Georgian David Mourtikneli, described the murder with doctor’s accuracy, which also had a sexual character.
For the personal drama, which Nikos Sergianopoulos had to live through, also spoke other witnesses. Everybody describes him as a person who was trying to destroy himself, because he never accepted himself as he was. He had a mania of someone following him, he was taking tranquilizers and anti-depressants and he finally reached cocaine in order to feel sexual desire. He has a long year relationship with a woman, only so that he can prove to his friends he is not a homosexual.
“Nikos was never happy, he never liked the life he was living,” said Konstantinos Sfirikidis, theater director and friend of the deceased. The witness described the victim as calm, absorbed in himself and scared. “He never accepted himself as a homosexual. He was asking himself ‘Why did God make me like this, so that I have to exist with those people?’.” According to Sfiridisthe life of Nikos Sergianopoulos was in two colors – sex and cocaine. “Once I took him to a doctor. He admitted that he liked ugly men with monstrous facial features, after whom no one turns around. He was trying to change his nature and he became a sex symbol. He told me that when he was a child everybody was calling him Nicoletta. Finally, he had to pay in order to have sex with anybody.”
“His relationships were with such people that were destroying him,” said another friend of the victim – famous producer Stratos Markidis. “He didn’t like the fact he is a homosexual and he was trying to change. He always thought someone was fallowing him,” added the witness. “He showed symptoms of paranoia. He believed that the police was following him, because they think he is a terrorist. He was extremely suspicious towards me,” says psychiatry professor Georgios Alevizopoulos, towards whom Nikos turned after he was arrested for cocaine use. “He used to come to me disguised, he believed I was part of the system. He used to take cocaine ever since 1990 but not all the time. He was an addict from summer 2007. Cocaine was helping him feel sexual,” explains in front of the court the famous professor. He added that without the drug the victim was not able to be active homosexual and his seven year relationship with the woman was “only for the people’s eyes”.
