Today Macedonia needs to present its arguments in front of the International Court of Justice in Hague, according to which Greece has violated the Temporary agreement between the two countries, signed in 1995. The text writes that Greece is obliged not to block the Euro-Atlantic integration of Skopje under the name “Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia.” According to the Macedonian government this has happened in April 2008, during the high level NATO meeting in Bucharest, when Greece exercised their veto right and did not allow Macedonia be invited as a member of the Allianz, together with Albania and Croatia.

According to Greece, all state leaders have agreed on the NATO meeting that Macedonia needs to solve its name problem with Greece first and then apply for NATO membership. The Macedonian arguments include quotes from Greek politicians, who use the term “veto” for what happened in Bucharest during April 2008, and publications and interviews in Greek media, which talk about the Greek veto.

The arguments will be presented by Nikola Dimitrov, former negotiator with Greece, who at the moment is one of Macedonia’s representatives in the International Court in Hague. Greek has to reply to the arguments until January 20, 2010.
