We all know the harm of car emissions. This is why ecologists are taking stricter and stricter measures, in order to improve the ecologic environment of the big city. The Greek state accepted a Plan for lowering the air pollution in the country, which plans an award for modern cars with lower emissions and fines for older ones. In connection to this plan, which will be enforced in 2010, cars are divided in four categories and the fines will be calculated in relation to how powerful the engine is and what is its effect on the environment.

This way, a car owner, who registered after January 1, 2005 from category A, will pay ?18 less than the taxes right now. Car owners from category B, with registration from January 1, 2000 until December 31, 2004 will pay ?50 additionally. Category C, registered from January 1, 1996 until December, 12, 1999 will pay ?100 in addition to the other taxes and category D car owners, with registration from December 31, 1995 will have to pay ?150 more. Taxes on hybrid cars are zero and vehicles with V engine, which is more powerful, will pay half of the taxes of vehicles from category A.
