An Apache helicopter crashed during a training flight over the island of Euboea. From the Greek military general headquarters reported that the two pilots – a Major from the air-force S. D. and the Captain K. A. are missing. The helicopter took off yesterday at 07:30pm, from Tanagra airport, to participate in a scheduled military training together with another Apache helicopter.
“Apache” disappeared from the radars at 08:11pm. The wreckage of the helicopter was found around the Saviour monastery around Kymi of the Euboea island. Due to the explosion from the wreck, the police force as well as the fire fighters came on the accident sight immediately. A C-130 airplane, which took off from Elefsina airport near to Athens at 08:23pm, fired lighting projectiles around the area, in order to help in the search for the pilots.
At 20:25pm a “Super-puma” helicopter takes off from Elefsina airport and a minute later, another “Super-puma” takes off from Chios islands' military airport. Ten minutes later a helicopter from the “Hydra” frigate, and infantry forces, join the gigantic rescue operation.
The reasons for the accident of the Greek air-force First brigade AN-64A military helicopter and the fate of the two pilots are still unknown.
