“The results from the ballistic expertise prove that the bullet has ricocheted. In this case, it is an accident and not murder.” This was Alexis Kouyas’ statement, lawyer of the two policemen charged with the murder of 16 year old Alexandros given for “Reuters.” Two days ago “Eleftheros Tipos” newspaper and other close to the government publications cited sources who are acquainted with the ballistic expertise results who said that the shot was fired pointblank.

The results from the expertise have not been announced officially yet and the results from the autopsy of the boy do not give a clear answer of the question. The medical examiners know for sure that the death is caused by a small diameter bullet, which pierced the heart and got stuck in the 10th vertebra of the spine. Other experts were commenting that even if the bullet is scratched, that does not necessarily mean it is because of a ricochet. It can also be scratched from entering the spine. Today, in the early afternoon, the questioning of the two policemen charged with the murder of the 16 year old student started. According to information given by the Greek media, both policemen will claim that Alexandros Grigoropoulos and his friends behaved arrogantly and threw at them a bottle full of flammable liquid.

Today for a fifth consecutive day the Athens center and Thessaloniki looked like a civil war movie. Today there is a 24 hour strike against the economical and social policies of the New Democracy government and because of this there were many rallies in the Athens center, which passed with no incidents. After they ended, the already known vandals with hoods came on the streets and started rioting again. Because little was left unbroken in Athens they started breaking the marble plates in the central metro stations and throwing them at the policemen. The police on the other hand used plenty of tear and poisonous gas.

Greeks are already tired of the continuing for a fifth day riots. This shows a gallop done by “Kathemerini” newspaper. According to it, 68% of the surveyed are not satisfied by the way Kostas Karamanlis’ government is dealing with the crisis and among them 50% have voted for New Democracy. Meanwhile “Vima” newspaper said that the Prime Minister has decided to announce a high alert situation if the riots continue tonight. His idea is supported by the Fpreign Minister Dora Bakoyanni, by the Finance Minister Giorgios Alofoskoufis, and by the Construction and Environment Minister Giorgios Souflias. The idea was rejected by the Internal Affairs Minister Prokopsis Pavlopoulos.
