The student protests in Greece continue for a second week. As it seems, the demonstrations are becoming less spectacular but larger in scale. Yesterday, the biggest demonstration was in front of the Chief Department of the Greek police, where high school and university students gathered for a sitting protest accompanied by police forces. At one point, the youngsters started throwing flour and stones at the policemen, who answered with tear gas. The main “Alexandras” Boulevard, where the department is, remained closed till later that day.

Stones and tear gas was exchanged between demonstrators and police in front of the Koridalos prison. Hundredths of young people protested in front of the “Evelpidon” Palace of Justice and in front of the Ministry of Education and Religions. There were demonstrations in Thessaloniki as well. Students from the Public Theatrical School occupied the Sikea municipality. Anarchists occupied a branch of the public radio, as well as the cultural center in Ioanina. Protestants took over the public radio in Mitilini, stopped its programmed schedule, removed the journalists working inside and started airing their own program.

There was tension between demonstrators and the police in Larissa as well, where students were protesting against the arrest of 25 young people who participated in protesting processions during the last few days.

Today high school and university students will continue blocking central and neighborhood roads and will launch an information campaign, which will let the elders know what the goal of the protests is. At 12:00 pm on Wednesday, there will be a big demonstration in front of the “Evelpidon” Justice Palace, and at 06:00 pm a rally will be organized at “Omonia” square. For Thursday there are another two demonstrations planned and for Friday, when the parliament is voting for next year’s budget, there will be a rally in front of the building against the governmental and economic violence.

Meanwhile the attorney of the two policemen, who are charged with the murder of 16 year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos, asked for their release on bail. Attorney Alexis Kouyas uses their clean past and the fact that they have a permanent address, where they could be tracked down whenever needed so they can cooperate with the judicial power.
