61% of Greeks believe that the EU is a symbol of hope and 55% believe that as a whole, the country benefits from the membership. Also, Greeks believe that the policies of the Union for surviving the crisis are more effective from the ones of the government – 43% against 28%.

On the other hand, most Greeks think that the EU should make decisions connected only with the environment and salaries. When it comes to topics connected with education, emigration policies, retirement funds, insurances, foreign politics and security, taxes and farming policies, Greeks are sure that they should be decided by the local government.

Maybe this is why 54% of the citizens believe that they are indifferent when it comes to the upcoming Euro-elections. Only 16% answer that they will not vote, which in reality will affect two of the biggest parties – New Democracy and PASOK.

24% from the ones asked, shared that they will not vote for the same Party as they did on the previous elections. The inner political developments of the country will be the main criteria, which will influence the votes. From this point of view, it is important to note that 87% of Greeks expect either bigger or smaller consequences of the crisis, which will influence their personal finances. Only 10% say that they will not be influenced by the crisis.

The results of the survey do not show pre-election excitement and the disposition of the voters fits better for parliament elections. It seems that PASOK’s advantage is stable with 38%, which shows increase with 3% and New Democracy has a small increase but we still cannot talk about a turn in the vote.

Today, the Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis and the rest of the European leaders will have the G-8 meeting in Brussels and next week Mr. Karamanlis will meet with the leaders of the Greek Parties, in order to discuss how the country will fight the crisis. The Prime Minister will have a defensive attitude in Brussels. In six minutes he will have to convince that the plan, which his government has offered is realistic and will be executed but if it fails – there is an alternative offer.
