The Cretan farmers are returning to Athens. The Farmer Federation had a meeting in Crete, on which they decided to board on ferries on Sunday and Monday and to arrive in Athens on March 23rd. they have already bought their tickets – Iraklio-Pieria and Hania-Pieria. The farmers are unsatisfied with the fact that the Minister of Agricultural Development Sotiris Hadzigakis has not set up an exact date when he will visit Crete, in order to be informed of the problems of the farmers there.

This time the farmers won’t be with their tractors and will protest in front of the Prime Minister’s chambers. The protesters are not planning to have a meeting with the agricultural minister, because they believe he does not want to talk to them.

After the Cretan farmers, the stock-breeders will protest. They will gather in Athens on Tuesday March 31st. the stock-breeders are not happy with Sotiris Hdzigakis as well, so they are planning to protest in front of the ministry building. They are asking for ?50 per sheep and ?250 per cow subsidies; decrease of the price difference between wholesale and retail sales through a strict market control; compensations for the dry summer and control measures of the lamb market around Easter.

The stock-breeders also want a meeting with the Parties leaders, in order to inform them of their problems.
