Several improvised devices exploded in the political office of former Prime Minister from PASOK Costas Simitis. The office is on the fifth floor of a building in one of the most central avenues in Athens – Akadimias Avenue. Nine fire engines and twenty-seven fire-fighters are at the scene. Police have cordoned off the area. There are no data on victims or people in the flames and exposed to danger.
There was no call to warn about the explosion. At the time of the explosion, there were many people in adjacent offices, but no one was injured. This is the second attack on the political office of Costas Simitis. The first was in February 2010.
It took fire forces about one hour to extinguish the fire. The concentration of many police officers around the building on 35 Akadimias Avenue caused huge traffic jams along the avenue and neighbouring Sina and Omirou streets.
