The board meeting to decide the future of Olympiakos will be held on 22 June.

As Vangelis Marinakis argued on the club’s official website, the meeting will take key decisions for the new season. Undoubtedly, the coach question is key. Marco Silva is the favourite, but there are other options due to the delayed termination of his contract with Lisbon’s Sporting. If everything is OK, the 38-year-old coach will come to Greece to sign a contract.

Another important item on the plan is the strengthening of the attack line. The names mostly tossed about over the last few hours are Jonathas of Elche CF and Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian is pretty close to signing and according to Bulgarian media will travel to Athens for some final talks in the coming days.

The case of the Brazilian striker is stickier. His Spanish club is unwilling to release him as a free agent. The issue will be decided in the coming days.

Another Greek sports website, contra.gr, adds that Olympiakos' management is resolved to build up the best team in recent years. Vital transfers are being promised, e.g. of Dimitar Berbatov, which is believed as already secure, an official announcement in the offing.

The red-and-whites believe they’ve already got the cream of players featuring in the domestic league, e.g. Gianniotas, Dzandaris, Martinez, Ben, Loria.

Apart from Berbatov, the Frenchman Bouet is also close to the Piraeus team. Olympiakos also wants another quick shortstop and the Portuguese Neto is the favourite for the post.
