One is dead, another missing after floods in Greece

One person died and one is missing after the floods of rain all over Greece in Sunday. The river levels rapidly rose and flooded number of areas in the country, including lot of houses and some sections of national roads, some of which are closed.

Early this morning a man died after his car got swept away by a river in the area of Grevena, between the villages Trikokya and Karpero.

Another 42 years old man is still missing. Around 4 in the morning he was in his car with his wife and 17-year old daughter travelling between two neighborhoods in Arideas, Pellas region, Northern Greece. When they tried to cross Belitza River, the car was swept by the river. His wife and daughter managed to escape but the man couldn’t get out immediately and he’s still missing. Forces from the fire department and the police, as well as many volunteers are participating in the search, without any results so far.

Floodes lashed down on Iraklio and Crete Island as well. Thirty houses were flooded, and a driver was rescued from drowning by firemen. In Athens, the sea-side avenue in Voula suburb was closed because of the flood. Some sections of the Athens- Patra highway and in the area of Grevena are closed.
