A shootout on Saturday afternoon in Patras, at 181 Antiyas Street in the region of Zarouhleyka, ended with one dead and two injured - one of whom seriously. Two people opened fire from a car against another car, which was picking up the victims, and then escaped.

Chronicle of Events

The attack happened just before 3 a.m. for unknown reasons. According to local media, one of the wounded was not injured by bullets, but by the car crash. According to the same information, the second injured man, who is in critical condition, was operated on. Local media relate the event to Wednesday’s murder in a night club in the region, in which an athlete and a “man of the night” were killed. In a statement, the police said that the killed man, 38, was discovered inside the car, and the man who was seriously injured, aged 21, was next to him. They are both Greeks. The investigation is being carried out by the police in Patras.

According to information, the killed man is Panos Tsirkas and Dimitris Vervaresos and Nikolaos Dadis are injured. They were getting into a BMW car, and there was a chase before the shooting. The shots came from a 4Χ4 Daihatsu Terios car, with two men and a fair-haired woman, who are being sought by the police.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Varvaresos, who is injured less seriously, gave his testimony at the police station. Antiyas Street is closed and residents are shocked. According to unconfirmed reports, one of the targets is associated with the security services. 10 shell casings were discovered at the crime scene.

The police consider it very important that the shooters did not hide their faces during the shooting. It is believed that this will help the investigation and examination of witness evidence. The police also know the registration plate of the car by which the murderers escaped. Some witnesses will be called to testify again. Varvaresos’s testimony is also being examined very carefully. The other injured man is unable to testify.

The results of the ballistics of shell casings discovered at the scene are awaited – these will help determine whether the weapons have been used in other crimes. Fingerprints from the vehicle of the victims are also being examined.
