One man died in a car explosion on the Attiki Odos ring road near Athens airport. The Greek media Ethnos and skai.gr report that, according to sources, the explosion was due to the explosives loaded in the vehicle.

The same sources said that while investigating the explosion site the police officers had found a crater, which raises doubts that the explosive was in the car.

The explosion injured one woman as well. Some sources claim she was in the same car and according to other sources, she was in a different car.

The information published by skai.gr indicates that members of the service for the disposal of explosives are at the site of the explosion whereas the teams of four fire engines have extinguished the fire caused by the explosion.

The police report that the incident took place at 7:30 am today. For the time being, however, the authorities define the case as an accident.

To be continued.
