Several days after her brother Lakis was sent to prison in Malandrino, the court imposed a temporary imprisonment on Panagiota Gavala. The sister of the former "Prince" of Mykonos was captured yesterday for non-payment of VAT. Today, she testified and the court ordered her arrest based on her testimony.

The manager of two companies for furniture and imports of clothing and footwear Panagiota Gavala appeared before the economic police of her own free will. Her arrest was ordered by the prosecutor leading the case against 60-year-old Lakis Gavalas for tax evasion amounting to 7.7 million euro.

The allegations against his sister were of non-payment of VAT to the amount of 146,000 euro as a felony.

Like her brother did a week ago, she too stated that she has agreed with the tax administration to gradually repay her debts and even submitted the first instalment of 40,000 euro.

According to lawyers, temporary detention could not be avoided, because when Panagiota Gavala reached an agreement with the tax authorities, the case was already in the hands of the investigator. Under these conditions, she had to pay the whole amount at once.

50-year Panagiota is one of Lakis Gavalas’ two sisters and until recently his "right hand". According to a publication in Espresso newspaper, she had been married to the financial manager of the companies of her brother, Kostas Panousopoulos. She has a son from her marriage with him, and a daughter by her second husband.

Panagiota was always by Lakis' side and supported him in his actions. Despite her extravagant style, she was never present in lifestyle publications. Panagiota is especially known in the high life circles mostly for the famous parties that she organized with her brother on the island of Mykonos.
