About six million euro in unpaid taxes is the amount that the cousins of former Minister of Finance George Papaconstantinou have saved as stated by the report of the office for combating financial crime, which is to be submitted to parliament.
According to the results of the inspection, the Sikiaridis - Papaconstantinou couple and the husband of another former minister’s cousin failed to prove how they had obtained part of their deposits on the “Lagarde list”.
In particular, the amounts that were not taxed in Greece are as follows:
Andreas Rosonis - 1,457,000 euro
Marina Papaconstantinou (his wife) - 193,499 euro
Simeon Sikiaridis - 1,666,318 euro
Eleni Papaconstantinou (his wife) - 2,987,660 euro.
Under the tax law, the two families will have to pay to the state the amount of about 10 million euro, including penalties and interest.

The findings of the financial inspectors constitute very important details of the case as they are directly related to whether the former minister had actually removed the names of his relatives from the famous list. Less than a week ago, the parliament decided to submit the case for investigation by the justice. If the court confirms the indictment, George Papaconstantinou can be sentenced to life imprisonment for a felony committed while on duty.
His relatives had been called to appear today before the parliamentary commission investigating the case, but it became clear early in the afternoon that they would not go and testify. According to sources, the two sisters and cousins of the former Minister of Finance had sent a letter to the commission members. It is expected that their husbands - Andreas Rosonis and Simeon Sikiaridis - will adopt the same tactics. The refusal of the four is not something new. They did not respond to previous calls either, basing their refusal on the court proceedings related to the case.
Later today, George Papaconstantinou will receive all the materials of the commission’s investigation. At the end of the procedure, he will also be called to explain the facts.
In an interview for To Vima 99.5 radio, Christos Markogiannakis, chairman of the commission, states that the major part of the investigation has been completed and all that remains is for George Papaconstantinou and his family to be examined, after which the case will be submitted to the court.
