The Greek parliament has removed the parliamentary immunity of Golden Dawn deputy Ilias Kasidiaris. 205 deputies voted "for" and five were "against" the proposal and so, the Golden Dawner will be on trial for beating Communist Party deputy Liana Kanelli on live TV.
Kasidiaris himself had also supported the proposal. In his opinion, the accusation was "fabricated and ordered". As he pointed out, he had not inflicted a heavy bodily injury. "10 million Greeks were witnesses," said Kasidiaris and urged his colleagues to remove his parliamentary immunity in order for him to be "officially freed from guilt again."
Kasidiaris stated that he had become the first victim after the sarcastic comments by Liana Kanelli and Rena Dourou from SYRIZA, who had also participated in the morning programme of Antenna TV.
"The immunity should have been removed during the first month when we were all candidates for deputies, not six months later," was the opinion of Liana Kanelli, who drew attention to the fact that Kasidiaris had been hiding for two days in order to avoid being apprehended and subject to the fast track procedure.
"He left the television studio to avoid the fast track proceedings without having to be dressed as a priest. It was enough that he was wearing the black clothes of Golden Dawn," she said, adding emotionally,
"He says he was enraged by a sarcastic comment, but I was not enraged by his words, "Communist, you will become soap."
During his speech, Ilias Kasidiaris accused the justice of being biased because he had also filed claims against both his female colleagues in parliament, but only his case was sent to the parliament.
Earlier, Liana Kanelli had approached him with the words: "You will not use your statute of deputy to undermine it. And someone who wants the establishment of a different parliament and a new system is telling you this. But we communists will continue to defend it, no matter how fascist you are inside and outside the parliament."
