According to the first exit polls done by seven companies, whose results were announced on all the biggest private and public TV channels, PASOK is a leader with between 41% and 44%, which insures it between 151 and 159 parliament members—in other words an independent government. New Democracy gathers 34.3%-37.3% or 94-100 parliament members. Third is the communist party with 7.3%-8.3% or between 20 and 22 parliament members. Fourth comes the right party LOAS with 5%-6% or between 14 and 16 parliament members. And finally comes the leftist coalition SIRIZA with 3.9%-4.9% or between 11 and 13 parliament members. Still it is not clear whether the Ecologists party will enter the parliament – according to the first exit polls their results are between 2% and 3%. 12 000 people participated in the survey but until the moment of the result announcement 9000 answers were counted.
According to an exit poll done by Kappa Research for in.gr and Vima newspaper, PASOK wins the elections with 42% against 36.4% for New Democracy. The Greek communist party gets 7.9% of the people’s votes, SIRIZA gathers about 3.7% and LAOS – 5.3%. The Ecologists will remain outside of the parliament with 2.7%. The probability of a mistake is 1.26%. Based on the results the parliament seat are distributed as follows: PASOK – 155, New Democracy – 99, Communist party – 22, LAOS – 14 and SIRIZA – 10.
At the moment they heard the exit poll results all PASOK fans gathered at Kavtmonos square started a victory party for the party leader Georgios Papandreou.
The famous journalist Ellie Stai commented on Alter TV that PASOK have gained the trust of their voters, because they have represented their messages in a more pleasant way and they have given hope to the people. On the other hand by pointing out the economic problems Mr. Karamanlis had pushed away the voters, because “it is the same as telling the sick one he is ill”.
