The pre-election rally of the ruling SYRIZA party began in the central Athens Syntagma Square at 7:30 pm. The main slogans of supporters were, "We get rid of the old, we win tomorrow," "History has a memory," "Tomorrow has a name."
Spanish Podemos party leader Pablo Iglesias attended the rally of SYRIZA whereas Podemos representatives were present at the rally of the dissenters from SYRIZA and now supporters of Panagiotis Lafazanis and his party Popular Unity, as indicated for GRReporter.
The rally of SYRIZA, which in fact demands a second chance for Alexis Tsipras and the Radical Left Coalition, was attended by none other than Alekos Flambouraris, Minister of State in the government of Tsipras, who is accused of conflict of interests worth over 3 million euro.
Gregor Gizia, general secretary of the German socialists of Die Linke, who are actually the heirs of the East German communists was the first to appear on the rostrum. He asked the attendees whether they like Merkel and Schäuble and having received a resounding NO, he urged them to vote for SYRIZA to annoy the Germans and the other 18 euro area countries.
Gregor Gizia passed the baton to leader of the German Green Party Ska Keller, who went a little further, urging, in Greek, the people to vote for SYRIA in Sunday's election.
The French Communists were not missing from the rally of SYRIZA and were represented by secretary general Pierre Laurent.
Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias stood on the rostrum after them and firmly said, "We, Podemos, are with Alexis". "Tsipras defended the Greek people as a lion against vultures that wanted to tear apart Greece. Today the vultures want to kill both him and you. Do not let them turn you into rabbits, protect your country," the Spanish leader urged with enthusiasm.
Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was the last on the rostrum and asked for the vote of citizens with the words, "SYRIZA will not only win but it will obtain a mandate to form a stable cabinet. The dilemma at the ballot boxes will be whether to go back or you will go forward with us."
According to him, SYRIZA fought in an economic war over the course of six months. "This fight shook Europe. Our small country became the number one topic for six months and turned into the symbol of the fight against economic interests," Tsipras boasted.
