Eight days have passed since the attack on the offices of Golden Dawn in Neo Iraklio, but no one has assumed responsibility so far. Usually, in such cases, responsibility is assumed immediately after the terrorist attack.
Authorities admitted that since no organization has assumed responsibility for the attack, the likelihood of retaliation still exists. The fear is that the new target will be political again, similar to last Friday’s case when two members of Golden Dawn were shot and killed and a third was wounded.
Possible targets
The police have increased security measures for people and places that are considered possible targets of an armed attack, and according to information, individuals deemed suspicious are under observation.
The attack in Pefki, 2011
The anti-terrorism service is continuing the investigation in complete secrecy, but if someone had claimed responsibility for the bombing, this would have given a direction for finding the perpetrators.
In Katehaki, after the murder of the two members of Golden Dawn, it is believed that the new generation of terrorists are much more brutal and take bold actions at high risk, ignoring the consequences.
For this reason, the police are worried, like in 2010, when journalist Sokratis Giolas was killed in cold blood.
Two questions
From the videos available to police, it appears that the perpetrator shot from a distance of 15 metres running and aiming at the same time - a fact which means that he has spent many hours training on the firing range.
The car in which Nektarios Savas was killed
It is not explained why the killer did not wait until he approached the victims before the shooting, and in this way gave them time to react. It is also unclear why they stopped the Africa Twin 750 motorcycle after the cafeteria, and not before reaching it, running in this way in front of dozens of witnesses who could react.
Patissia, Nea Ionia, Nea Filadelfia
Districts full of weapons, hiding places and perpetrators
The murderous attack in Neo Iraklio, the disappearance of the perpetrators in the streets of Nea Ionia, the abandoned motorcycle in the stream of Helidonos - those who know the area well said that the killers had evidently been moving around there for a long time.
The hiding place of the terrorist group "Revolutionary Struggle" in Nea Ionia
The triangle between Patissia, Nea Filadelfia and Heraklion in Attica has bothered authorities with terrorist activities in the past, too. Members of armed organizations have shown special preference to North-western Athens ever since 2003, when the hiding place of the terrorist organization "17 November" in Patmou Street in Patissia was discovered. After that, in 2010, the houses which were used as headquarters for the operations of the terrorist group "Revolutionary Struggle" were discovered in Nea Ionia, and recently five suspects have been arrested in the cafeteria on Dekelias Avenue in Nea Filadelfia.
The pre-history of districts began long ago, but is marked by an attack with a machine gun and a grenade against the police station in Perissos on 30 April 2007. This attack followed the rocket attack against the American Embassy in January 2007. The terrorist group "Revolutionary Struggle" assumed responsibility for both attacks. "With our actions we respond to the continued repression by the Greek State against those who are against its neoliberal policies," stated the organization, directly targeting the then Minister of Public Order Viron Polidoras and the then Minister of Education Marietta Yanakou. A year and a half later, a bomb exploded in front of the entrance of Yanakou’s house in Patissia. The responsibility was assumed by the terrorist group "Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei" and the Fraction of Nihilists.
Headquarters and attacks since 2002
The Sect of Revolutionaries killed officer of the anti-terrorism service Nektarios Savas in the same area in June 2009.
The districts of Patissia, Nea Ionia and Nea Filadelfia were still popular among members of armed groups in 2010-2011, too. The neutralisation of the terrorist group "Revolutionary Struggle" revealed the headquarters of the organization in a block of apartments at 2 Likourgou Street in Nea Ionia, a car in Anakous Street in Nea Filadelfia, and another house in Sarandoglou Street in the same district. In Patissia, at the intersection of Tisou Street and Ioannou Foka Street a burnt vehicle belonging to Nikos Maziotis was discovered.
In May 2011, there was a clash between youths and the police in Pefki. A patrol car was sent in order to check a telephone signal. The suspects shot at the two police officers and wounded them. The police officers shot in response and wounded Theophilos Mavropoulos whose fingerprints were discovered in houses of the Conspiracy in Volos.
