Greek police have released five photographs of the home-made bomb, which on Saturday, 25 February, did not explode in the Athenian underground by mere chance, although it was activated. The device consisted of four litres of flammable fluid, an ignition device with batteries, a timing mechanism and cables. It was in a green paper bag placed under a seat in a wagon. The driver of the railcar found it while inspecting the wagons before leaving from Egaleo to "Eleftherios Venizelos" International Airport.
Later, a previously unknown organization "Partisan struggle in the city" took responsibility for placing the home-made bomb. According to the police, the terrorists intended the home-made bomb to explode during the railcar manoeuvres in Egaleo station. However, experts of the anti-terrorist unit are concerned that the next attempt of the organization could be aimed at shedding much blood and could be successful.
Therefore, the police are asking the citizens who have travelled in that railcar on the route from the Ministry of Citizen Protection to Egaleo on Saturday, 25 February around 5 pm to testify with guaranteed anonymity. Anyone who knows even a slight detail could greatly help find the perpetrators and especially, prevent the death of innocent people. Citizens can call the following phone numbers: 170, 1014 and 1964.
