The Common Greek Federation of Policemen and the Common Greek Federation of police officers want policeman training, so that they can be ready to deal with criminality and not to track after demonstrators. They also demand for restructuring the public order system and normal salaries. Representatives of both federations met with SIRIZA leader Alexis Tzipras today.
The police syndicate members are insisting for structural changes in the organization, in the police activities and for clearing the problem with policemen’s salaries. “We are searching for dignity and training so we can protect citizens,” said the syndicate members. They announced that the policemen, who were attacked by terrorists in Aghia Paraskevi, will not be paid for the period when they will not be at work.
Alexis Tzipras said that the creation of a cross-party commission in the parliament is necessary, so that it can deal with antiterrorist policies and follow the structure of the Greek police. “It is time for the newly elected Ministry of Citizens Protection to fulfill its pre-election promises,” concluded Alexis Tzipras.
